Howard Hanson Dam
Residents, businesses and farms below the Howard Hanson Dam in the Green River Valley should prepare for a higher risk of flooding. The higher risk is due to water seeping more rapidly through an earthen bank next to the dam after record high water last winter. Until the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) can make repairs, it must limit the amount of flood water it stores behind the dam. If heavy rain and prolonged rain occurs this flood season (roughly October through March), many homes and businesses in the valley that don’t typically see flood water–including parts of Auburn, Kent, Renton, South Seattle and Tukwila–could be flooded. Prepare now to help keep your family and property safe when the rain comes by checking out the following websites: www.kingcounty.gov/floodplans, www.floodsmart.gov, www.takewinterbystorm.org, or www.seattleredcross.org. For additional resources please call Tamara; Director of Customer Care at (253) 893-7161.

Results from the Kiel Mortgage Marrow-thon
Kiel Mortgage held it’s first annual Marrow-thon on September 23rd, 2009. The day proved to be a major success in so many aspects! Linda Kendall, who is a past Kiel employee and in need of a bone marrow transplant listened throughout the day to the live radio broadcasts and was uplifted by the large outpouring of love, support and prayers! The awareness brought close to 200 new applicants to the bone marrow registry, and 56 people gave blood which was a record breaking day for the Puget Sound Blood Center. In addition, Kiel raised $35,000 for Linda’s uncovered medical expenses! Together our small work group made a big difference proving that we are indeed, “Big enough to do the job and small enough to care.” To see the community pull together and people driving from all over the state to attend our event was heartwarming and it is our sincerest hope that the awareness raised will bring forth many blessings that will save lives! From cloud 9 we want to thank those who attended the Marrow-thon. Your decision may possibly save the life of a cancer patient waiting for a transplantation! What an incredible, uplifting day!!!! Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
